Luciano Ventrone

Drawing Out

Ventrone’s work has a photographic quality to it and it’s very difficult to see how he creates his paintings. This helped me because I felt less constrained by trying to accurately reproduce every mark. I used a smaller grid which helped me draw a more accurate figure and I enjoyed working with the pencil to see how I could achieve the subtle shading of the original. I worked on this over two sessions and then finished it off at home where I added some stronger shading. I’m pretty pleased with this one. The photos below show my sketch as it progressed and the last photo is of Ventrone’s original painting.
